Hōp is a Cambodian restaurant and cocktail bar by Chef Bun Cheam and Cait Callahan. They are opening their brick-and-mortar location in Red Hook in 2026. In the meantime, they'll be at Runner Up for a longterm residency Wednesday-Sunday nights and Saturday and Sunday lunches. Punchy, funky flavors of traditional Cambodian cuisine are paired with a rum-focused cocktail menu and light-hearted, juicy wines.

Runner Up is the sibling neighborhood restaurant to WINNER Bakery. With just 12 seats at our bar, it's an intimate space to enjoy a thoughtful meal or a glass of wine and snacks created by our culinary team.

Bun Cheam immigrated from Cambodia at age four and started cooking with his grandmother from an early age. He started his career in New York at Commerce in the West Village, later moving to Talde and Thistle Hill Tavern in Park Slope. He has most recently helmed the kitchen at Red Hook Tavern as executive chef for the past five years. Hōp is Cheam’s first Cambodian project, which he is opening with his wife, Cait. The duo is set to open their brick and mortar in Red Hook next year.

Cait Callahan started out in food service as a barista in Park Slope, leaving her job in publishing for a love of cozy neighborhood restaurants. Before opening Hōp, she worked her way up to general manager and beverage director for La Vara and Saint Julivert in Cobble Hill, and Fort Defiance Red Hook Tavern in Red Hook.
